Robbie Williams isn't wacky, is he?

Robbie Williams, the likeable lad from Stoke-on-Trent, holds lots of records.

He sold a world record 1.6 million tickets in one day for a 2006 concert tour, since going solo he has sold more albums than any other British solo artist, he is the biggest-selling non-Latino musician in Latin America, and he has established the all-time weirdest reason for buying a mansion.

Compton Bassett House, just outside the village of Compton Bassett, Wiltshire, was described in the sales blurb as "a remarkable period house, recently restored to an exemplary standard, with superb indoor pool and magical gardens. The house has two staff flats and a cottage".

The £7 million (US$10.2 million), seven-bedroom, 71-acre estate is also in the centre of crop circle country and just yards from an HQ for thousands of people who investigate the field indentations every summer. Further, it is said to be criss-crossed by “ley lines” — invisible mystical energy routes believed to attract UFOs.

Robbie Williams is apparently obsessed with UFOs. He claims to have seen UFOs three times and called his 2006 tour Close Encounters. And he once revealed he believes in ghosts, saying: “People will think I’m mental — which I am.”

The new Williams residence will be near one of Britain’s most haunted pubs and other ancient and mystical sites such as stone circles, white horses carved on to hillsides and burial mounds.

Of course, it's one of those stories the tabloid press adores. If the genre had existed in Conan Doyle's time, his scientific interest in the supernatural would have been lampooned a lot earlier.

I don't think Williams is mental. I think he's likeable.

Janet, you are right of course, but I have my doubts about that particular place. I don't mind the UFOs flying overhead (UFOs are notoriously quiet) and I don't mind the ghosts in the pub down the road. What I mind, and which the newspapers largely failed to mention (such shoddy journalism) is that the place has only seven bedrooms. I ask you, how can a house that size have only seven bedrooms? I think they must have knocked out a few when they put in the indoor pool.

Maybe Robbie Williams doesn't want too many people inviting themselves to stay!

I hadn't thought of that. Well, if that's his attitude, hmmph, I won't be inviting myself to stay!

Seems his girlfriend didn't like his inquiring mind. Maybe she wanted him to get a real job too.

sometimes i wonder if he purposely leads people to believe he is a whole bunch of things hes not because he is actually really dull behind closed doors

Good point Morgan, but he might also lead people on and not be dull behind closed doors. If he really did say, "“People will think I’m mental — which I am,” that's self-deprecating, and I always think self-deprecation takes confidence and self-knowledge. I also find it likeable - oh, I already said that

theres always so many reports of him playing up to the rumours that hes gay, or a womaniser, or a fetishest, or a cross-dresser, or a subtance abuser, or a nudist, or a control freak etc etc etc

i think for one reason or another he just loves oiling the cogs of the rumour mill . . . surely nobody can be all those things all at once

dont get me wrong, i find him likeable too, i just suspect hes really normal and boring when noones looking

I don't have to see someone from his/her wealth but the reflection from his/her heart which reflected from his/her behaviors.

Jammalakallaah!

I'm not joining gossip.
