Which type of lottery player are you?

There are only two types of lottery player: those who pick new numbers every week and those who always choose the same numbers. Some people like to chase luck while others like to stand still and hope luck catches them.

If you are the sort who likes to chase your luck, however, news from Bulgaria may cause you to rethink.


The numbers drawn in the Bulgarian national lottery of September 6 were 4, 15, 23, 24, 35 and 42. In the next drawing, four days later, the same six numbers came out. Bulgaria's Sports Minister has ordered an enquiry.

Mathematician Mihail Konstantinov worked out the odds of the same six numbers being chosen twice in a row: 4.2 million to one. But we want to know if Konstantinov's probability calculation factored in that there are only two types of lottery player ...
