Wheely dumb
February 26th 2009 10:00
In a daring attempt to pinch the 2009 Supreme Stupidity Award, a car thief in Adelaide, South Australia, managed yesterday to lock himself in a car he was trying to steal.
The man, aged 53, apparently panicked when a police patrol van came into sight. Where the instinct of many car thieves would be to flee, this one somehow got into the car and locked it.
Not to be outdone, his partner in dimwittedness was spotted hiding under a bush by police trying to get the first man out of the car.
"The man, while breaking in to the car, had locked himself inside and couldn't get out," a police spokesman said, succinctly.
Both men have been charged with illegal interference and theft and were refused bail.
