kyle sandilands

He's brash, he's a judge on Australian Idol and he got his first job in radio after lying on his résumé about working with Triple M. In September 2006, he was named by Zoo Weekly as Australia's most hated identity. He's Kyle Sandilands, Australia's answer to Gordon Ramsay.

He is in the news again after being accused of falsifying his Twitter follower numbers. How low can a man go?

The accusation has been made by Leon Hill, who runs a social media marketing company called uSocial. Hill was widely quoted by news sources when he called Sandilands and his 2Day FM radio show co-host Jackie O "Twitter wankers" after their Twitter following increased by 30,000 in 18 hours.

Hill's initial comments that the new followers were fake were made after he analysed some of the followers and found that most had no photos and few or no updates. The ones that were updating were doing so "with either their name, or an illegible grouping of letters".

Hill said most of the followers of the Twitter account were fake and that Sandilands and O were using a script or computer program to "create accounts and then follow their own".

"In my professional opinion, something funny was going on," Hill said. "I've seen this stuff before and to me it's quite obvious. Since all the publicity has come out about this Twitter issue with Kyle and Jackie's account, their followers have ceased to increase at such an alarming rate."

Sandilands has responded by threatening to sue Hill for slander.

According to Hill, "He stated that he'd taken on bigger people than me and won so he would have no problem taking me to court. He also said that I should think about moving my money overseas just in case I had a `retarded kid' over here to support as he intended to ruin me.

"He was quite calm, but very offensive as we've come to expect from him."

On their show on Monday morning, Sandilands and Jackie O said they believed the massive increase in followers was due to the fact that they were placed on a "recommended list".

Grimshaw and the pig

June 12th 2009 00:08
The celebrity spat of the year just got juicier with the news that Tracy Grimshaw has been asked to pose nude for an erotic magazine.

In case you are not up to speed with this story, which has chased swine flu off the front pages of the less credible newspapers around the country, here's a quick review: Gordon Ramsay, a grotesque parody of a celebrity chef, was interviewed by A Current Affair, a grotesque parody of a television current affairs show, hosted by Grimshaw.

Ramsay didn't like Grimshaw's style and a day later, at a live cooking demonstration before 3,000 people, held up a picture of a nude woman on all fours with many breasts and a pig's face, and said the image was of Grimshaw.

He later apologised "unreservedly" for the "inappropriate" action, but not before the Prime Minister jumped in and called Ramsay a "low-life".

Now let's all take a deep breath and stop laughing for a minute and digest the latest twist.

Zoo Weekly, which has a web page copied straight from Britain's mindless menagerie of C-grade tabloid erotica, has offered Grimshaw $50,000 to strip for a photo shoot.

Grimshaw, showing more discernment than when she invited Ramsay to appear on her show, said no. Kevin Rudd hasn't commented, for a change. Ramsay, if asked, would no doubt appear naked with a pig if offered the same money.

Blog writer wanted

June 3rd 2009 01:10
remington typewriter

Candidates should be female, aged 29-39, and resident of Melbourne, Australia.

Salient Point, my corporate blogging services company, is negotiating with a cable television content provider to write a blog for a TV station. The station shows re-runs of favourite 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s series, including all the most popular ones (Friends, Will & Grace, Ally McBeal, Baywatch etc).

The blog will build readership in two ways. The first is through content around the theme of celebrities: news, reviews, historical anecdotes, polls, trivia etc. The second is through content which appeals directly to the TV station's dominant demographic — women in the 29-39 year-old age group.

We need someone to be the face and the heart of the blog, a woman from this age group with a passion for TV and an interest in celebrity news and issues.

She must also be a professional-level writer, preferably with a media or PR background. She must be confident dealing with client management, capable of generating unique and engaging content, and able to build and sustain readership loyalty.

Pay is A$55 per hour. The number of hours involved is not yet known, but will be a minimum of 2.5 hours a week and a maximum of 7.5 hours a week.
